Social Media and Customer Relevence...

Only a few posts in - and here's a controversial one...

I love the title of this post from Peter Shanckman at Business Insider - "Why I will never hire a Social Media expert"

He says he was going to call it “All 'Social Media Experts' Need To Go Die In A Fire” but decided that was a bit harsh!

In the commercial world our goal/purpose as a company is to help our customers to make money / or save money through the clever use of digital tools and channels. This means that sometimes we'll suggest using social channels and other times we'll say - "It's not worth the effort" or "Wait a while..."

There's very little point having a social media strategy if the writing and content to feed those channels is going to be a struggle - and my own view is this activity still sits better in-house within the marcomms team.

Build the content/writing skills and be as authentic and transparent as you can be - that's the future.
